The Mongo are one of the most numerous ethnic groups of the Congo and have a
unique slashing knife with a blade of normal size, but with the end stretched out. While
the design can vary considerably, examples like this with the end stretched out to a
hooked point on each end make a very effective slashing and hacking weapon. Forged
iron 15 3/4" blade with shallow medial ridge, expanding to a width of 6 3/4" at the point
(shows age, wear, and rust patina). One-piece wasted hardwood grip with integral
conical pommel (small chips). Very similar example illustrated in Fig. 324 in
“Afrikanische Waffen”, by Fischer & Zirngibl. Overall length 20"
