What a beautiful French mantle clock with a carved black solid marble case. The clock movement was made by the famous Japy Frères and Company which won the Gold Medal of Honor at the Paris Expo in 1867. The domed top case has Corinthian columns in the 2 front corners and an intricately carved marble scene on each side of the clock face. Notice one side depicts a cherub and a seated owl. The other side displays another cherub and a standing rooster. The case rests a on moulded marble base. The clock dial has a brass bezel and a brass and marble face. The face is marked Bigelow, Kennard & Co., Boston which was a very famous jewelry store in that region. The original face and hands are in excellent condition. The works are also original and in perfect working condition. The clock has a lovely gong which strikes every hour and half hour. The clock comes with winding and adjusting keys. Remarkable, the case is in excellent condition except for a very tiny chip on the right front corner above the capital.
