French Louis XV Revival Marble Mantel c.1880

To a fine quality French marble fireplace mantelpiece. The Sienne-Claire marble is figured with blue veins and a slight yellow cast on a white background. The marble has been cut so that the veins are symmetrical and add to the beauty of the piece. The shelf has a shaped front edge with thumbnail and cove moulding. Below, the frieze is centered with stylized leaves and to each side are moulded panels The mantel opening has a highly raised moulded section and the jambs or legs are mounted with carved console brackets and tops. The mantel has the usual small repairs and has been highly polished to show the figure to advantage. (#1674)
