French Figural Landscape Oil Painting by Louis Dupuy, AKA Eugene Galien-LaLoue (1854-1954)

Unavailable
This landscape by Louis Dupuy depicts two figures beside a stream and farmhouse on a spring or summer day. Frame measures 12.5" by 19.5" (32 cm by 49 cm), and the exposed portion of the canvas measures 6.75" by 13.75". The work was recently professionally framed with the rear papered, so we are not able to inspect and photograph the rear. We are selling the work "as-is". Signed "L Dupuy" in the lower right corner. Canvas has a clear layer of varnish and there are no visible signs of damage. Dupuy was the pseudonym adopted by Eugene Galien- LaLoue. The artist was a popular painter among his contemporaries and is thought of as a Belle Epoque or School of Paris painter. He is known for his figural cityscapes of Paris (similar to the styles of Edouard Cortes and Luigi Loir), as well as his rural landscapes of Barbizon and Normandy. Lalouie debuted at Salon des Artistes Francais in 1877, and enjoyed great critical and commercial success for decades. While under contract with galleries in Paris, he commonly completed commercially appealing works such as street scenes. He painted under aliases to explore other artistic interests, and to show and sell works that extended beyond scope of his commercial contracts. His other aliases beyond Dupuy include Galiani and Lieven. Additional images forwarded upon request. ( dantiques )
