Art Deco Commedia Dell' Arte Porcelain Figurine by Leon Leyritz

This delightful porcelain figurine by the noted French sculptor, Leon Albert Marie de Leyritz (French, 1888-1976), depicts the clown Pierrot kneeling at the feet of the Courtesan. Measures 10 by 7.5 by 2.7 in (25.4 by 19.1 by 6.9 cm).   Condition is excellent.  There are no deep scratches, chips or restorations.  Signed in the glaze L LEYRITZ.  We believe this work dates from the 1920s to 1940s. Leon is known for his figurative sculptures in bronze and porcelain, but also designed interior spaces and sets for theatre.  The artist studied with two of the most important French sculptors of his age:  Marius Jean Antonin Mercie and Jean-Paul Aube.   He exhibited at the Paris Salon and won several awards between the 1910s and 1930s.  His bronzes has sold at auction in excess of $100,000.
