On the front it reads, Civil War Centennial, Fort Sumter, SC where the civil war started and where Lee surrendered at Appomattox, VA. Both places pictured on the front of this card. On the back it reads in part, Fort Sumter, On the 12th of April 1861 confederate troops fired the opening shots of the war between the states. Bottom view, The McLean House, Appotattox Court House National Historical Park, Va. On April 9, 1865 Robt E Lee met U S Grant in this residence and surrendered the Army of Northern Virginia.
