This is a marvelous quilt that was made in 1874. It is a entirely hand pieced and hand quilted with 14 stitches per inch. It has a cotton batting. The blocks are pieced and hand applique used in the borders. There is provenance with the quilt stating that it was made in 1874 by Mrs. Emma Phillips, SR. (nee Gessert) in Menomonee Falls, Wisconsin. There is some wear in the red fabric used in the flowers. The pictures show the worst area of wear. There is some fading of the cream colored dotted background fabric. The backing is unbleached muslin.
