A fine watercolor and gouache of a Scottish highland scene shrouded in mist.A Scottish historical genre and landscape painter, he was born in Boharm and studied with Robert Scott Lauder (RSA 1803-1869). MacDonald exhibited frequently at the RSA as well as the RA from 1866-1876. He was elected ARSA in 1862 and RSA in 1877. Auction records in recent years have reached $50,000 for his paintings. He has multiple sales in excess of $10,000. This painting is circa 1880 and would have been done at the height of his creative prowess. Image size is 21" wide by 14" high at sight. Framed is 30" wide by 23" high. Generally excellent, noting some foxing and toning primarily to the sky. This would make a great addition to any Scottish watercolor collection.
