Faux Marble/Slate, Victorian, Fireplace Mantle
- Item Not Available
This may look like a marble fireplace mantel, but it's not. The mantle is all original, but is made of slate and was originally finished to look like marble. This was not uncommon in the late 1800's in the Pennsylvania and New York regions. The mantel has great detailing. The shaped mantle shelf measures 11.5" deep. The backsplash measures 4.5" tall. Below is a wonderful pronounced keystone and a pair of columns with 4 Minton tiles inset into the slate. Below the keystone and between the columns is an arched firebox measuring 28.75" wide by 31.5" tall. The arch is composed of two separate pieces which can be removed to expose a larger firebox measuring 35.5" square. The mantle is designed to come apart in many pieces for transporting and re-constructing. The faux marbling is in incredible condition. You would swear it was marble due to the color and detailing. There is some minor wear on the mantle shelf exposing the identity of the slate, but not enough to distract the illusion. This would be perfect for that wood or gas fireplace you are looking to restore or construct.
