EXCEPTIONAL VICTORIAN ROCOCO REVIVAL ROSEWOOD HALF TESTER BEDROOM SUITE Attribued with confidence to Mitchell & Rammelsberg, Circa 1860's We are very proud & fortunate to find and now to be able to present this Exceptional Victorian Rococo Revival Rosewood two pcs Mitchell & Rammelsberg "BIRD'S NEST" Half Tester Bedroom Suite. This set, named the "Bird's Nest" set, is mentioned specifically in Mitchell & Rammelsberg's price list, circa 1863. The bed listed for $ 90.00 with an "up charge" of $ 25.00 for Rosewood and the Dressing bureau listed for $ 48.00 and also had an "up charge" of $ 15.00 for Rosewood. One hundred seventy-eight dollars was a lot of money way back when and would have been close to the cost of 60 acres of farm land. Did you know the Lincoln Bedroom in the White House has a fine Mitchell & Rammelsberg bed on display that the Lincoln's purchased and is on display currently. This impressive suite features a fine half tester Rosewood bed with ornate carvings, beautifully upholstered tester insert, professionally crafted draperies & and back drop, extra fine finials, cartouche, bird's nest crest and conforming curved footboard. The most impressive matching Rosewood Dressing Bureau stands an incredible 118" tall & displays a fine crest. The very tall looking glass mirror plate frame and crest comes with its own support base as it is the tallest dressing bureau we have ever seen. The dresser base is equally impressive displaying the original marble top with cookie corners above a marvelous bank of three drawers with beautifully carved nut draw pulls, and tasseled key. Notice the escutcheons graduate in size, flanked by well crafted turned and fluted corners and a hidden draw at the bottom.
