English VICTORIAN Sterling Japonaiserie Pin/Locket, c. 1881
- Item Not Available
This is a wonderful Victorian sterling brooch made in Birmingham in 1881/82 (fully hallmarked - see close up). During the 1870s and 1880s Western interpretations of Japanese design were very popular and found their way into jewelry. This is a particularly fine example. The brooch has a crystal covered compartment at the back to hold a photo or other keepsake. The pin measures 1 7/8" x 1 1/2" and is in excellent condition. In addition to the English hallmarks, there is a maker's mark "A.G.C."
