Unusual small tea caddy of papier mache from England 19th century has gorgeous hand painting on lid center in deep red and gilt with mother of pearl inlay forming some of the flowers. Blue,brown and gilt corner designs with gilt edging surrounding the edges. Matching larger designs in the same tones on front with key hole and lock,no key as well as each side. Stands on 4 raised feet. Two compartments on the interior lined with green long nap felt,lids with tiny wooden knobs. Very slight fading to top edge gilt. Edging at center front in gilt,few very minor nicks to interior lid edges,otherwise a very stunning piece for desk or jewelry box for vanity or dresser. Measures 8L X 4.25H X 5.25D.
