Art Deco Ruby Red Glass by Emmy Seyfried (1888-)

$500.00
Quantity available: 1

This ruby red glass vase with polychrome enamel floral decorations was designed by Emilie (Emmy) Sayfried (1888-1969) of Munich, Germany, circa 1920s.  Measures 10" tall and 6.6" across.  Condition is very good.  There are no visible losses or cracks and only light scratches.  Seyfried studied with Adelbert Niemeyer and Franz Widmann.   Early in her career she designed ceramics with painted and etched decorations, and also designed textiles and wall papers.  From 1908 to 1923 she worked as a freelance artist, and around 1913 she became a member of the Deutschen Werkbund (German Work Federation), an association of artists, architects and designers that is considered an influential forerunner to the Bauhaus.  She is known for her engraved and enameled stemware designs which periodially appear at major auction, but her vase designs are apparently rare.
