Bronze Sculpture After Joseph Pollet (1814-1870)

This lovely figure in bronze after Joseph Michel Ange Pollet (1814-1870), circa 1900s, is entitled  Une heure de la nuit (an Hour of the Night) after the original sculpted in marble the artist debuted in 1848. It is an allegory for slumber, depicting a stretching, nude, floating female beauty holding a nighttime star above her head, with her robe falling to the ground.  Wonderful brown and green patina.  Measures:  38 x 17 x 12 in.  Signed Pollet in the cast with stamped marks for the foundry (indecipherable) and PARIS.  Weight: 66 lbs.

Born in Palermo, the artist studied with Valerio Villareale, Bertel Thorvaldsen, and Pietro Tenerani.  He was active in Belgium and France, and received four medals at the Paris Salon between 1847 and 1855.
