Ebonized Aesthetic American Fancy Arm Chair

Unavailable

This lovely antique ebonized armchair has its original hand-painted golden floral decoration and rush seat. Made by the Grand Ledge Chair Company of Grand Ledge MI, it's an exceptional example of American Fancy painted furniture in the Aesthetic style. Measures 33.75" high by 23" wide by 22.5" deep. This chair dates from no earlier than 1885. This firm began production in 1883, possibly under the name Michigan Chair Company, but is known to have operated under the name Grand Ledge Chair Company by 1885. Originally purchased from a prominent Manhattan (New York city) antique dealer approximately five years ago. This rather eclectic design features a shield-shaped seat back with lovely carved crestrail and two bobbin turned splats. Structurally sound. Rush seat is firm.
