This bright and captivating view of Early Twentieth Century Berlin was done while Scholz (1898-1982) was still a student in the early years of World War I and contains many of the Expressionist elements that later developed in his more Abstract work. (See for reference related item 1129820.) The painting, portraying the capital's sparkling Princessenstrasse on a sunny day, is painted in tempera on artist's board. The condition is superb and the painting is enhanced by its handsome burnish-gilt Louis XVI frame . Approximately 13 inches by 17 inches image, 18/1/2 inches by 22-1/4 inches frame.
