Cruciform hilt of typical style, with straight iron guard with swelled cylindrical quillons and tapered octagonal iron pommel. Original wood grip and leather wrap, the leather being worn and missing in spots. It is very difficult to tell where the leather stops and the wood begins, as is often the case with early swords where the leather bonds to the wood over time. The sword has clearly never been apart. Broad lenticular 32" blade with an interesting fuller arrangement; 5" triple fuller, going to double fuller, then finally a single fuller. Chiseled on both sides is a wheel symbol of early style, with remnants of original latten inlay. Blade lightly pitted overall with edge nicks and wear from frequent sharpening. Overall length 40". Executioner’s swords this early are extremely rare.
