Here is a spectacular primitive chest. It is European, it is deeply carved. It has primitive outside dove tail and inside has snipe hinges. It has hand bale handles on each side. Carved on the front and each side – the top and back are not carved. There is remnants of old blue paint showing through in certain sections. This is a fabulous size – it would make a fantastic wood box by the fire place or and occasional table or just at the foot of the bed. It is the size more or less of a large document box – even though this is just the way we like to see it a little scrubbed and worn with those beautiful little tinged of original paint showing through. The carvings are deep and well defined. It measures. It dates from the 18th century or possible earlier. It measures 25 ¼”w x 12 5/8”h x 12 7/8” deep.
