Massive and rare Chinese blue and white covered bowl or vase. Well defined and early circa 1700s. The big big piece is extremely well done and could be a early as Ming though the potting suggests a Ching attribution. Suberb example of early Chinese blue and white.
Provenance: This piece was owned by Helen Nelson who's family founded the Nelson Atkins museum of Art in Kansas City and specialized in Asian Art. They also founded the Kansas City Star which is still the main newspaper of KC. This was purchased in the 1930s as most all of her oriental items were this was from her sale. Perfect condition save for a minor hairline at rim and in base.
