This is a clear banana bowl in a herringbone, panel and beaded swirl pattern dating to the 1890s. The EAPG, Early American Pattern Glass or Elegant Glass banana bowl is like Lacy Swirl or Scalloped Swirl, but not quite and measures 4 inches high by 10 inches long by 5.75 inches wide and is in very good ++ antique condition with no chips or cracks. There are a few mold flaws where the cooling glass made a faint surface line, but these are quite normal in this age of glass. Banana bowls were part of the Victorian ideal of a separate, specialized item for each food stuff. They make wonderful holders for fruit, flowers or whatever and the flared shape is so interesting!
