Dutch solid brass repousse jardiniere or planter hand forged from mid 19th century. Two talented cherubs are depicted in raised repousse on the front, one with old fashioned chiseling hammer in hand creating a bust with slide rules and scrolled notes along side his stool and aladdin lamp, the other with easel, palette and brushes behind him sketching a bust displayed on a stool in front. Solid thick rope edging on top of planter. The back is plain but does show the hand forged dove tailing to connect the two ends of brass at center back seam. Black interior and bottom. Good weight. Slight minor scratches with age, overall extremely great condition. Large enough to be used for other than a good sized jardiniere. Wonderful color to the aged brass.
