A very early edition of Dickens' Works containing 2 of Dickens' novels:  The The Posthumous Papers of The Pickwick Club, 1873,  with 52 illustrations by Thomas Nast and The Life and Adventures of Martin Chuzzlewit, 1877, with 59 illustrations by J. Barnard.  It was published by Harper and Brothers, Franklin Square, New York.  The Pickwick novel has 332 pages and the Chuzzlewit has 350 pages.  All pages are intact with no tears or markings.  It has a leather spine that extends 1.5" onto the marbled covers.  The corners also have re-enforced leather triangles on them.  The spine has gold gilt printing and design on it and it is still very visible.  There is wear to the leather spine and corners but not unusual for a book of this age.  The covers do have some wear and skuffing and edge wear.  The end pages are the same marbled pattern on them and are in excellent condition.  The paper at the spine is split but the binding is still firm and tight.  The marbled pattern is carried over to the top, side and bottom of the sides of the pages as well.  We believe that this is part of a set published by Harper Brothers in the late 1800's.  We have 3 additional books each containing 2 Dickens' novels that are listed under item numbers: 1012121, 1012122 and 1012124. The book is now in a mylar covering to protect it from any future wear.  We can offer special pricing to anyone that may be interested in purchasing the lot of 4 books.
