Most Victorian crescent brooches are merely a curve of graduated diamonds, end of story. This brooch has a wonderfully detailed design and great precision of execution. Bell flowers, fleur de lis, scrolls, and strapwork combine to create a piece of considerable weight and drama. The diamonds are a mix of Old European cut and rose cut. They are set in silver with a gold back, as one would expect in a piece of this period. This piece changes the definition of "crescent brooch."
