We’re very pleased that we found this desk in Massachusetts. It is a Victorian turn of the century solid mahogany raised panel partners desk dating from the 1890s. Most likely a Derby desk, from the way it’s constructed and my years of handling desks, it has six normal size drawers and a file cabinet drawer on each side, with a large drawer in the center. Because it is a partners desk, it is identical on both sides of the desk. It has raised panels inside and out, and it has been completely stripped, sanded, glued and stained, with multiple coats of satin sheen lacquer applied. It’s all solid mahogany, and all original except for where some trim pieces were missing on the two large center drawers. They’ve been replaced, and it’s impossible to tell they were even missing. The overall size of this desk is 60 inches wide, 48 inches deep, and 31 inches high. The chair opening is 25 inches wide, and 24 inches high. It offers plenty of space for comfortable seating and spreading out your work. It has a solid top, and at one time someone made a hole about 2.5 x 3 inches to put in wires or such, that we have plugged. Unless you look at it just right, you can’t tell it’s been fixed. The desk has pullout sliders for writing surfaces above each column, two on each side, and it has an applied bracket foot base, raised panel drawers and solid mahogany handles. It’s just a really rare desk that we’re so happy to offer.
