Description: Over 12 million strong the Yoruba reside in southwestern Nigeria, spreading into Benin and Togo with a rich and diverse art heritage. Traditionally the Yoruba were split into about 20 autonamous subgroups acting as kingdoms in their own right. Consequently the art of the yoruba would be a lifetime study by itself. This wrought iron sculpture although varying from the traditional somewhat but is like the Ifa divination staff. The upper cup would be used to contain the powerful medicine used in the divination ceremony.
