Description:
Wonderful Rococo mahogany Victorian marble top dresser
attributed to Alexander Roux, NYC. The original arched mirror has a
fabulous open carved crest on the top with initials ("AR"?) carved
in the
central cartouche. The frame has candle cups and carvings on the
side and a
finely detailed rope molding border that is indicative of Roux's
work (for a
similar molding see page 37 of "Styles of American Furniture
1860-1960" by
Eileen and Richard Dubrow). There are four serpentine shaped
drawers including a bottom secret drawer. Each drawer has track moldings,
raised
key escutcheons and fancy carved pulls. The same carved pulls but
smaller
are on the two drawers on top of the marble. The sides of the case
have
carvings. The original marble does have some staining. A fine
quality
chest with exceptional grain!
