Excellent condition We are pleased to offer this bold sterling silver mother of pearl pendant with five gemstones.
This pendant weighs approximately 41.7 grams, and the pendant is an oval cut mother of pearl (See below) with brown and gray based iridescent, rainbow-hued shell. Our jeweler informs us that the metal is sterling silver (See below), even though there is no hallmarks indicating it. There is a large, lavish bail of delicate designs of curlicues and small, flat, round disks.
There are five gemstones, four silver beads, and graceful swirls of sterling silver sculpting cascading down the front of the shell in an elegant and artistic scheme. This is where the gems are set in bezels. The gems are as follows: deep purple amethyst, brown smoky quartz, spring green peridot, aqua colored blue topaz, and a cultured pearl. There are four small silver beads adding to the artistic balance, two on each side of the shell. This pendant is in excellent condition.

Mother of pearl
A nacreous pearl is made from layers of nacre, by the same living process as is used in the secretion of the mother of pearl which lines the shell. This substance is called "mother of pearl" because it is literally the "mother", or creator, of true pearls.
The unique luster of pearls and mother of pearl depends upon the reflection, refraction, and diffraction of light from the translucent layers. The thinner and more numerous the layers in the pearl, the finer the luster is. The iridescence that pearls display is caused by the overlapping of successive layers, which breaks up light falling on the surface.
Black mother of pearl comes from the inner lining of the black oyster.
Sterling silver
Sterling silver is a white and highly reflective precious metal. Sterling refers to silver that is 92.5 percent pure, which should be stamped on the metal as Sterling, 925, or .925, sometimes accompanied by the initials of the designer or country of origin as a hallmark.
