Description: 33-1/3 LP - Colonial Williamsburg, Inc. Recording. Williamsburg Candlelight Concert – The Governor’s Palace. Jacket shows shelf wear at bottom and corners, otherwise in good condition. Original sleeve yellowed and paper becoming brittle. Minimal scratching if any and one buff mark. May have been played once or twice at most. Needs cleaning. Record not played in decades.

HISTORY: From 1699 to 1780, Williamsburg was the political, social, and cultural capital of Britain's biggest colony in North America. Here, many of America's early founding fathers debated the ideas of liberty, independence and freedom. Its residents included such notables as George Washington, Thomas Jefferson, Patrick Henry, George Mason and other Virginia patriots. Colonial Williamsburg is the nation’s largest outdoor living history museum encompassing 301acres including some 500 public buildings, homes, stores and taverns reconstructed and restored to their 18th-century appearances; tradesmen practicing 30 historic trades and domestic crafts; historical interpreters and character actors; and 90 acres of gardens and greens. The Governors Palace was built in 1722 and home to seven royal governors until 1775 when the revolution deposed them. Then it was executive mansion of Virginia's first two commonwealth governors, Patrick Henry and Thomas Jefferson. The original was destroyed by fire in 1781 while serving as a military hospital for soldiers wounded at Yorktown. The reconstructed palace includes beautiful gardens, courtyards and canal. The Williamsburg Foundation does its own recordings of the Candlelight Series.
