Stephen Frank Wasley 1848-1934, exhib. 1880-1914.
Frank Wasley was born in Peckham London. He trained originally as a musician and toured Canada for 4 years. On his return he made painting his profession and for many years had a studio in Whitby. He painted many landscapes and coastal scenes which show his fine handling of atmosphere, light and shade.
He lived at Nottingham 1880, Shrewsbury 1882, Manchester 1895, Whitby Yorkshire 1896, Weston Super Mare 1903, Littlehampton 1908, London and Henley on Thames between 1912 and 1914. It is recorded that he held one man exhibitions in Leeds, Newcastle and elsewhere and his work is represented in many public collections throughout Britain.
This painting is a particularly fine example of Walsey's work...atmospheric and full of movement; much of the paint is applied impasto showing a skill and delight in the use of the medium. The painting completely captures the feel of a blustery day in the English countryside.
