Four views of Venice, Italy. Each printed along lower edge: "Peint par W. Wyld. Lithographie par E. Lessore".Admiring Michelangelo and Raphael, after 6 months in Rome British artist William Wyld decided to make a tour of the whole of Italy on foot with a companion (apparently Émile-Aubert Lessore). On 1 January 1834, they crossed the Simplon Pass in a cart during a snowstorm and he then set up his studio in Paris, where he was commissioned to produce paintings of orientalist scenes and Venetian architecture. Becoming known to the public, he exhibited a 2m wide canvas "Venice at Sunrise" at the Paris Salon of 1839, winning the 1st Gold Medal in the 3rd class for it. The prints may be later reproductions. Dimensions: Each: Paper (sight): 9 3/4 x 14 1/2in. Frame: 16 x 21in. Total Weight: 5 lbs. 2 oz. Condition: All prints are attached to mat with masking tape along top edge verso. All prints have mat burn and the paper is slightly darkened throughout. All prints have dimensions inscribed somewhere outside the plate marks in pencil recto. Paper outside plate marks is soiled and there are small losses to paper for all four prints. There is light foxing on all four prints. One print has a 1in. crease located in the center of the bottom edge. One other print has a 6in. crease reaching from the bottom edge to the right hand side. Otherwise all prints are in good condition overall. Artist's Biography: AFTER English painter William Wyld (1806, London - 25 December 1889, Paris) and French painter Émile-Aubert Lessore (1805, Paris - 1876, Marlotte).
