A large Late Western/Early Eastern Glazed Han Guan. The guan is made of high fired stoneware also known as Proto-porcelain. This type of stoneware is higher evolved than the earlier period stoneware. The walls are thinner than its predecessors, but still retaining the strength. This guan weighs 15 pounds. The Guan form was modified from the original bronze hu shaped vessels. This guan has hand formed looped handles, and raised, grooved and incised designs. Such decorated wares are much more rare than wares without. The upper portion of the guan is covered with a luscious thin and watery olive-green glaze that stops about midway down the guan. The glaze exhibits fine spiderweb crackling. The guan was excavated from a Jiangsu province.
