Description:
This is a very fine English Victorian Welsh Dresser. We purchased it in Wiltshire, Engand. It is made of Oak and has a rich, warm, medium Oak Patina. The Welsh Dresser has a High Gallery at the back. The Gallery has a beautifully formed Cornice. There is an ornate Rosette Frieze flowing below the Cornice. The Back of the Gallery is beautifully paneled with Vertical Reeding embellishing it. There are Two Plate Rails flowing across the center of the Gallery. The Plate Rails have a groove running across them so that you can display your china collection upon them. Placed between the Plate Rails at either end, are Display Compartments. They have lovely Astrigal Glazed Doors that are embellished in Stained Glass fashion with the Leading and Panes of glass forming a Diamond Pattern. The Gothic form of the original Hinges add beautiful detail to the Doors. The Side Rails which frame the Horizontal Plate Rails are shaped in a charming Wavy Pattern and continue into the Supports at each side. The Base of the Welsh Dresser has Two Drawers over Two Doors. The Drawers have gorgeous Acanthus Leaf Blocks at either end. The Drawers open to reveal the beautifully made Dove Tail Joints which bind them. These are an indication of a very fine cabinet maker. The Doors are extremely complex and quite elegant in their design. They have Cathedral Arched Panels with scalloping corners. There are Rosettes carved at each corner. A bold Horizontal Rail divides the Arches from the gorgeous Sunken Panels below. The Sunken Panels are framed by Fluted Vertical Rails. The Doors open to reveal two roomy compartments with Shelves flowing across the center. Your additional China can be displayed here. The Welsh Dresser retains its' gorgeous original hardware. The hardware has a Gothic influence in its' design. This includes the ornate Hinges, Floral Knobs and striking Barley Sugar Twist Ring Pulls. The piece is supported upon fine Stile Feet. This English Victorian Welsh Dresser is an excellent choice for displaying a collection of fine China.
