Description: Outstanding examples of lighting in the aesthetic movement around 1880.These fantastic wall sconces are so finely casted in bronze. On the top fret is a pair of dolphins in the classical form, the design down the sides of the sconces is all open casted, at the bottom as you can see are the two candle holders in porcelain are Longwy Porcelain in the Anglo Japanese manner-with embossed floral. The surface patina is rich & wonderful - the mirrors are highly beveled & original & in very good condition. They measure 23 Ύ” long & 8” wide at the widest point –6 5/8” wide in the center –the mirror is 3 Ύ” wide. They have an attached hook on the back for hanging, they are in the original candle burning condition, never wired, but I'm sure they could be. In the book Gas Lighting in America by Denys Peter Myers on page 201 there is a chandelier pictured plate 96 that has the identical porcelain pieces & is made by the Thackers, Sons & Company 1882. The aesthetic movement, Anglo Japanese design was one of the most vital movements in turn of the century America.search Longwy French France porcelain wall sconces sconce lighting girandole -------------------- We have been in this business a very long time and we know that our success comes from keeping our customers satisfied.
