Description:
A wonderful Art Deco travel poster, alternatively credited to 1910 or 1925, we think it is more likely the latter as it is truly Deco in style and feel. One can easily imagine the late afternoon sun setting on Lake Lugano, the wonderful and Grand Hotel feeling building bathed in the glow of the reflected light from the water... the hotel was owned by the Bucher Durrer family and the poster was printed in Lugano, but the artist preferred to remain anonymous. This is a classic image and in very good condition. According to Wikipedia: "Lugano (Lombard language: Lügan) is a town (56,889 inhabitants, a total of 130,000 people in the agglomeration) in the south of Switzerland, in the Italian-speaking canton of Ticino, which borders Italy. The city lies on Lake Lugano and its warm summers, and the fact that in recent years it has attracted an ever growing number of celebrities, entertainers and successful athletes has given it the nickname of the "Monte Carlo of Switzerland". It is the 9th largest city of Switzerland by population. The origin of the name is possibly the Latin word Lucus, meaning wood or sacred wood, or Gaulish locovanno "lake dweller". Condition B+ Paper, linen backing. Poster measures approx. 42 x 31 inches. Please note that all of our posters are vintage, non-reproduction works of art. Thank you!
