Made of Sterling Silver

GoodoleTom your best source for fine quality collectibles, the place where "Rarity is Common” is pleased to offer this lovely Vintage Dance Pen by Mabie Todd.. The Length of the pencil is about 4 inches long including the ring. It weighs about 19.6 grams and it is made of sterling silver. The top of the pencil is hallmarked Fyne Poynt Mabie Todd & Co., New York , USA. This fine collectible is in excellent condition with the patina left on. When opened the inside contains 5 pencil leads. Unfortunately, we are not certain of the exact age of this piece.

This kind of pencil, in addition to the dance card, was a necessary item used by young ladies while at a prom or formal dance (in the earlier years). She would enter in her dance partners for the night. It was a matter of pride for the popular young lady to have a "full card."

One of the longest-lived makers of writing equipment, Mabie Todd was a firm whose partners' involvement in gold nib and pencil manufacture dated back to the 1840s; Mabie, Todd & Co. itself was established in 1860 in New York City.
