Description:
Part of an estate sale, this handsome fellow measures approx. 4 1/2" high x 7" at his widest point. He carries a "saddle bag" on either side and he sports a lusterware container upon his back which has a few bumps beneath the glowing paint that were evidently incurred during the manufacturing process. Hand-painted, I feel sure, and I find no chips, cracks, or crazing. No manufacturer's mark. A fellow Ruby Laner more knowledgeable than I kindly informed me that this item probably dates back to about 1925. She also speculates there may be a maker's mark underneath one of the felt protectors under each of the elephant's feet. We feel that the "saddlebags" were probably to hold matches and that perhaps the lusterware portion at the top was to hold a small ashtray. This charming pachyderm is in excellent vintage condition. Insurance included in postal charge. Item ID: DB-2815
