Description: This is a beautiful and very heavy antique Wall Crank Telephone made by the Stromberg-Carlson Telephone Manufacturing Company, Chicago , Illinois. This information is stamped on a metal plate on the inside of the telephone. This phone does not have a dial. You would have had to turn the crank to get the attention of the operator and she in turn would have had to get your party on the line to talk to them. Do you think we would take that much time these days to make a call? There is also information stamped on the bakelite ear piece - Stromberg-Carlson Tel Mfg Co. Chicago , Ill - Pat'd June 12 - Nov 24 '94. There is also a number stamped on the mouth piece of - 1041726 L. CONDITION; Both the external and internal mechanisms and parts are original and the internal mechanism appears to be complete. The wood is solid oak and has no cracks or splits. The hinges appear to be original and are solidly mounted. The cord from the phone to the earpiece is somewhat frayed and some wires on the inside are broken. The lock is missing and the opening is held closed with a screw. The phone measures approx 26" tall X 8" wide and 15" deep from the back to the end of the mouthpiece. Please keep in mind this is a heavy stuff. The phone weighs about 25 pounds. Stuffed on the inside of the phone is a copy of old phone information on repair and how the phone works. If you need any additional information, photos or have any questions, please don't hesitate to ask. I think the phone can be put in working condition according to the consignor. Or you can also put new workings into the interior and use it in the current working of a new phone with an old look. This item is very old and is in excellent condition for its age.
