Description:
Perfección de plata! ... Like William Spratling, Miguel García Martínez became a designer of jewelry with no previous experience in silversmithing. He was the chief designer for Rancho Alegre--the largest and most popular silver retail shop in Taxco from 1956 to 1985--and also created designs for Emma Melendez. This superb brooch is an outstanding example of his highly sought-after jewelry. With a big, bold modernist design, it boasts a stylized hexagon within a hexagon form; openwork accented with sterling half-round beads; and an abstract, incised pattern in the center, made all the more dramatic with patination or niello inlay. Hallmarks: Miguel in script--which was García's trademark Rancho Alegre signature--as well as RANCHO ALEGRE; STERLING, TAXCO, 925 {circle}, AA {inside circle}; Eagle assay #3; and inventory or design #108. The AA indicates the maker's mark and stands for celebrated silversmith Adan Alvarado. Size: Length: 2-1/4" in diameter. Condition: Excellent.
