Vintage Mappin & Webb Silver Plated Shell divided Serving Dish w/ Griffin handle

ITEM DESCRIPTION

This is a brilliant quality shell form divided serving dish from Mappin & Webb, one of England ’s finest makers of Sheffield silver.  This lovely dish has three sections, each a clam shell form.  The most beautiful thing about the dish, though, is the lovely curvilinear handle that has a Griffin hidden in it.  This gives is an added elegance and a beautiful silhouette.  It has a warm rich patina and makes a beautiful presentation of itself.   It is fully marked on the back and indicated that it is from Mappin & Webb's "Prince's Plate" line (see last photo).   This lovely serving dish will add elegance to your entertaining and make a beautiful gift. Dimensions It measures 10” X 10” and the handle is 5” high a the highest point. Condition Good estate condition.  No loss of plate.  No dents, only the most minor signs of age or use.  Provenance This item comes from a prestigious estate auction in Long Island ’s Hamptons. For over a century, “the Hamptons ” has been one of the world’s playgrounds for the rich, the famous and the infamous!
