Description:
Fenton first introduced Vasa Murrhina (vessel
of gems) in 1964 and discontinues it in 1968.
It returned in the 1980s but this is an original
vintage piece as it does not carry the fenton
molded mark.
It is a cased piece and includes crushed
glass flakes in blue and sparkling adventurine
green between the layers. This type of glass
was made centuries ago and then in the
1880s by Cape Cod Glass Works. The
formula for this type of glass was lost and
Frank Fenton directed his staff to redevelop it
after acquiring an earlier piece.
It is a completely clean and perfect piece. The
interior is clean and without stains. It has no
evidence of a hard life (no surface mars or
scratches). It is without damage - no chips,
flakes, hairlines, cracks, fleabites, etc. or
repairs. There is a little manufacturing
roughness at the embossed point where the
handle attaches to the basket.
This is the larger of the 2 baskets made.
General measurements of the piece are as
follows: It actually stands 11 inches tall to the
highest point on the handle. It has a 3 1/2
inch base. It measures 7 1/4 inches front to
back and 5 1/4 inches wide from outside
handle to outside handle.
Any white spots are from photography lights.
We will be glad to forward larger copies of our
images for your assessment.
