Description: This is a ceramic inset horse brass made 1940-1950s on a faux leather headpiece. The overall piece measures 7 inches high by 3.5 inches wide and the brass itself measures 4 inches high by 3.25 inches wide and is in excellent condition. There are newer ceramics just coming on the market but the brass is a different shape and quality. Horse brasses were developed in the 17th century to decorate and identify draft horses. They are a popular collectible today. In England you see them decorating the beams in pubs and hanging by the fireplace in homes.
