Description:
Beautifull Guadalajara barkcloth skirt, individually hand prong set diamente, on a very detailed tropical setting with peacocks, in all their glory. Ca. 1948/50, this was part of Guadalajara's folkloric dance costume. The costume would have included a sombrero, blouse and shawl. This skirt is in good condition, no damage I can see, the diamente are all in place, these are Austrian crystals, no rhinestones. This barkcloth is famous from the late 1930's, and 40's, was used for drapes, upholstery, and the original is getting scarce it is such a durable fabric, it is highly collected. There is a metal zipper at the back of the skirt, with a button closing, at the waistband. The skirt measures 38 inches from wist to hem, and the waist is 30 inches around, there is about 3 yards of fullness in the skirt. This skirt is the ultimate in recycling, Wearable Art!
