Description:
I'm honored to present this lovely Tennis trophy won by the very colorful & elegant Bob McMillan (shown in photo) who recently passed on at the amazing age of 102. He actually played the great Bill Tilden once and who no doubt was the model for this figure. I'm certain it was created after a photograph showing Mr. Tilden in the exact volley motion (credit: Culver Pictures). Bob McMillan played other greats during his amateur tennis playing carrier and was friends with many who's names are instantly recognizable. I'm happy to supply the buyer with additional information as told to me. The trophy was made by the Bridgeport, CT based Weidlich Brothers Manufacturing Company, makers of fine metal objects incl. trophies. The one here is silver plated with no losses. It could be polished a little more. The racket was cast separately and can be removed although I would not recommend it since it is very delicate. The base is bakelite. The cuff is silver plated and engraved as follows: "Eastern Wisconsin Doubles Runners up 1931 John Strange Robert McMillan". It is rare to find a figural trophy of a tennis player this finely detailed with the racket still intact after almost 80 years. I'm pleased to offer it here....Please enlarge my photos for a closer look....To view MORE FINE TROPHIES I have listed...just click on the "VIEW THIS DEALER'S OTHER ITEMS" button on the left, then type the word in the search box.
