Wow! A Coblentz Original and in very good condition! What a find.
Louis Coblentz, born in Paris, Started the company in 1935 with the intention of introducing the Parisian "smartness" or style into the well made bags. The company closed for business in 1980.
This Coblentz Original evening bag was made for Garfinckels. Julius Garfinckel & Co. was a Washington D.C. area tradition for the area elite to shop.
This delightful handbag is in a lovely chocolate brown satin color. It is nice and small like a clutch, but does have tow dainty handles for draping it over your arm.
The bag has three compartments. Two outside pocket/folder like compartments and one center clasp shutting compartment. The two outside compartments have a lovely wave/scalloped edge. The clasp is a lovely gold tone shell ornament.
The interior of the main compartment is chocolate brown and gold satin and has two smaller pockets.
The interior has two labels. One reads, "Coblentz Original" in gold ink. The other is an attached label which reads, "Julius Garfinckel & Co Washington".
The purse measures 10" tall from bottom of base to top of straps. The actual purse compartment area is 5" tall. It measures 8.5" wide and 1.5" deep.
This purse is in lovely condition. There are no rips, tears or stains. It is in wonderful vintage condition.
