Description: C30's - 40s. Blush and golden threads are the woven background of this beautiful brocade purse, topped with an ornate, fabulous gilded jeweled and filigree frame (front side only - rear of frame has a carved design only). The closer has 4 seed pearls and a small round purple stone. All the stones could be real or glass - not tested - pearls feel real or cultured - also not tested. It was common during this period to use real semi-precious stones which is why I am saying they could be real. The frame has 10 pearls, 2 round purple, 2 square red, 2 round green, and a center round blue stone. The filigree work is delicate and delicious, and goes all around to the corners of the front of the purse, as do the stones. Frame is 6.5 inches long, at least 5/8 inch deep, and the frame corners are 2.25 inches long - each one having 2 pearls. Closer is 1 inch high. Purse is 7.75 inches wide across its pleated front, 7 inches long from top of frame to bottom plus another 7.25 inches of chain, pleated sides expand to 3 inches. Unusual shape with pleats on front and back and squared corners on front to show off beauty of frame. Lining is deep cream color, with stains at the top...and two pockets on each side shaped for lipstick, compact, small comb, etc. Oh - how I love the way things were made back when!!! The brocade does show some wear in its colorations. When you look at the sides, you can see it is much lighter than the front and back. This purse was definitely used and loved...and yet, the brocade still looks wonderful...not dirty, just different colors. The frame itself is worth the price of the whole bag...as ornate frame lovers know.
