Description:
This vintage dove gray Brentleigh vase in the Ballina style has a wonderful sponge applied floral and leave design. The three red stencil patterns are each repeated twice around the vase. I can not find a definite date marked on the vase but the feeling is that it was done in the 30's to 40's. The condition is good with no chips or cracks. It does have a few wear spots at the top edge and small flea bites places on the sides. The bottom shows wear on the edges consistent with its age. The incised mark on the base has Ballina S Brentleigh Ware England. Just below the Ware you see a mark that looks like it was scratched in the clay before firing and I believe it is the initial of the artist. I can't really make it out. English pottery collectors will like this great example of vintage pottery. Check my inventory for other pottery.
