Description:
Elegant Victorian Rococo Revial solid Rosewood Etagere with Walnut accents, Circa 1855. Open crest work and shelves with a white marble top on pier above cabriole legs. This Etagere is a Rococo S & C Scroll Lover's Dream!!!! It is covered with S and C Scrolls. Origianl cleaned finish with great patina, a later beveled mirror and maintains its original marble with some age discolorations. Three display shelves on each side flank the central mirror. Each shelf is supported and accented by S & C Scrolls with each level being differently designed. At the very top is a torch and scroll crown and at the bottom please find a wonderful carved front on a hidden drawer below the marble pier. This Etagere has a great mix of quality and style. It appears very delicate and high style, but actually has a high quality thickness making it very sturdy and a desirable display piece. THANK YOU for shopping with us and please Email us with any questions or comments.
Quote:
The designer and architect Andrew Jackson Downing believed that "nothing bespoke a householder's taste and status as much as a 'handsome etagere', "He preferred one with a center handsome mirror flanked by shelves for display of articles of virtue~~bouquets of flowers, curiosities or other fine indulges of a person's taste".
~~~~~I think he would have approved of this fine example~~~~~~~~~~
