Description:
Most likely produced by P.N.C.W. during the early years of the 20th century but not marked. This lovely gilded brass jewelry or powder jar features a portrait of an elegant pair of Victorian ladies, in a garden, being serenaded by a lute player. There is a mirror inside the lid with and a glass insert bowl in the base of the brass jar. Both the jar and lid are embossed with several intricate surrounds of braid, florals and scroll work. It measures about 4 1/2 inches across the base x 1 3/4 inches tall and with the exception of moderate tarnishing and a few scratches on bottom, due to age, the gilded brass jar, its gilded brass lid, the glass insert, and most importantly the celluloid protected portrait are all in excellent condition.
