Description: A small lava cameo, classical Roman face in very high relief. Face detailing is very nicely done. Lava jewellery was very fashionable in Victorian England. These were usually souvenirs of travel in Italy, especially to the Pompeii archaeological excavations site under Mount Vesuvius. This delightful little example has what is probably a pinchbeck mount, and is in excellent condition. Measures: 25mm by 22mm ( 1 inch by 7/8 inch).
