Description:
Victorian grandfather clocks, such as this one, are extremely hard to find. The case is a dark wood, possibly cherry. Notice the unique shingle look carved treatment on the bonnet. The clock has a dramatically decorated brass face - almost like a sunburst. The hands, dial and glass are all original. The original works are unsigned but are of excellent quality and construction. The 8-day works needs winding once a week. The clock strikes a gong on the hour and half hour. Check out the elegantly shaped brass weights and the brass pendulum. The solid brass heavy castings applied throughout the case appear to have a gold plated or fire gilt finish. They are meticulously cast and the details are superb. Check out the roaring lions and leaping dolphins. There appears to be a missing casting just above the dial door. This was only noted when cleaning and finding 2 very tiny nail holes and a faint shadow of an outline. Given its ornateness, it is not missed. The clock runs perfectly and keeps excellent time. The finish is original and in very good to excellent condition. This grandfather clock would make a statement in any home.
